Today marks the launch of Pulsate for Android and Google Chrome. We are really excited about this release since this is our first Android application and it is a major milestone for our internal development efforts.
Pulsate for the browser is using open web technologies like WebGL and the Web Audio API. This is a major step for audio synthesis using HTML5 – no plugins required.
We are committed to bringing more audio apps to mobile devices so stay tuned.
For the nerds: Pulsate has been developed with our internal cross-platform framework called Hiddenwood and makes use of a single code base. There is no platform specific logic involved. The browser version uses WebGL or Canvas to render the UI whereas the Android version uses OpenGL ES 2.0.
The audio synthesis is making use of the same audio engine we developed for our Audiotool application you all know. When running in the browser we decide at runtime whether or not a resampler is necessary to guarantee that you hear the same audio content on different computers.
This is a great step in the right direction and allows us to release new applications quickly on multiple platforms.
